Welcome 2011.

So i spent new years eve at a mates mates pad in Manly and this was the view i woke up to.

The view was amazing and the night was fun too, Just hung out with friends and made new friends. A good start.

Then there was pain of waking up from next to nil sleep and pack my stuff and leave that place to head down to chinatown for a lion dance.

I find it quite ironic that my new years day is opened up with liondancing, with todays show being the first of many, symbolic of this years start to the Chinese New year festivities.

Over exposed?

I stumbled on this on tumblr. I'm blogging about this because it is a nice photo, cute chick. But whats bothering me is that all the red and the skin tone is perfect but when it comes to the white background meeting up with the subject it just kind of .. disappears. How could you overcome this would you need to take two photos with different exposures and then photoshop it later on? I think so and i don't think i could do that. =(

I think that would be the only way to go about it for this picture. It's reminding me of a time my friend took pictures of a white r32 with black rims, he apparently had to take two shots of the same thing with different exposures... or was it possibly flash positions? I don't know..... ahh the difficulties...

New record!

650 kms in one tank! That equates to 7.2 l/100kms, A trip to Canberra and back with loads to spare! I think i could of gotten 700kms out of it if the highway kept going, but i would of fallen asleep and died.

Although this time when i filled up it actually used up 46 liters close to 47, so I was running with the light on for a long long time. Also another new record.

Last minute catch ups!

I think the best things that happen in life are spontaneous.

I get a text today for a catchup. Sure there was a bit of confusion and hassle of driving to the girls and picking them up but it was all good as we were very satisfied with out catchup dinner at "The Ranch" somewhere in Epping i believe.

Also today was the first time i got to see Viriya and Lourdes after exams had finished and also i got to see their baby Athiya who is 1 month old! It was quite strange and very heartwarming holding Athiya, i think that was possibly my first time holding a baby and it was... well. nice.

Maria playing "Kiss me - Sixpence none the richer".
Omg, I'm quite pleased with myself as Jeff taught me the first few cords to that song, I'm still patchy and horrid but I'm still proud i can play something audible, I want to learn how to play a guitar now so i can be a super spunk! lol
It was actually quite nice to be creating music out of my own will. I might actually consider learning properly now.

Alison, me and Lourdes. Lourdes is absolutely glowing and Athiya looks great and healthy!

Night shots.

Here are some shots i did just a few minutes ago (2.30am) on a tripod.
Iso at about 400 or 800 with a 15 second exposure, f6.3. I think.

I'm so amazed, I can take photos of stars!!

New years resolution. - Project 365

Ok so I have made a decision. I have for once in my life made a new years resolution, a resolution where it's simple, it's realistic and it's achievable. I am going to be partaking this project called 'Project 365'.

Project 365 is a photo diary, 1 photo a day for a whole year. Why have i decided to take up this project and why do i get this great sense of excitement boiling inside of me? I honestly can't answer that question but since starting this blog 6, 8, 10? months ago I can honestly say i quite enjoy it. I wish i blogged more often, but I do get lazy, I run out of things to blog about and sometimes well most of the time I'm terrible with my creative writing.

My aims from this project is, well it's just another digital diary for myself i'll make it public of course. I think i'm quite excited about this is because I will learn so much, I will learn so much about photography, I will learn so much about myself and if you think about it, it's a year long photo album.

I have considered trading in the G11 for a proper entry level DSLR but upon reading other reviews, there are little things actually no, there is still a lot to learn about this camera. One thing I find quite frustrating is the grainy photos in low lighting but apparently it's best to take photos with a ISO setting no higher than 800. I don't know actually, it's just something i read.
So instead I might just by an external flash for the g11 and see how i go. I actually dislike using flashes but a friend told me i should try using a proper flash.

Now the issue is, what medium should i use for this 'project 365'. Should i stick to blogspot or get the ProFlickr account or something else?

I plan to start on Jan 1st so lets see how i'll grow up from there.
